On 18 October 2019, the EU and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) marked the 13^thEU Anti-Trafficking Day in Georgia by holding a joint event in Telavi.

In the capital of the eastern region of Kakheti, the EU and IOM joined forces with local governmental and non-governmental partners to raise awareness on trafficking in human beings, which is one of the world's most serious transnational crimes and one of the most complex human rights challenges of our time. Messages were shared to emphasize the urgency to deal with this ugly phenomenon in a resolute and well-coordinated inter-disciplinary fashion.

Equipment with a total value of 6,348 EUR (GEL 21,580) will further develop abilities of the Georgian Government to combat irregular migration and cross-border crime.

At an event at Tbilisi Airport hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the EU together with project implementer International Organization for Migration (IOM) have donated 60 pieces of advanced border management equipment to the MIA.  This included document inspection equipment, enabling passport control officers at key border crossing points in Georgia to do a quick check of the security features of passports and other travel documents. In case of doubt, they can refer passengers to a more thorough second-line inspection and examination.

Equipment and software with total value of 130,000 EUR (GEL 400,000) will further develop crime-fighting abilities of the Georgian Government.

At an event at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) the EU together with project implementer International Organization for Migration (IOM) have donated advanced border management and crimefighting equipment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.  This included sophisticated equipment for the in-depth examination of identity and travel documents to the Forensics-Criminalistic Department of the MIA and two comprehensive software packages enabling both the Forensics-Criminalistic and the Central Criminal Police Departments of the MIA to thoroughly investigate instances of cybercrime and retrieve evidence from cyber space that was hitherto difficult to penetrate.

The EU has today marked the donation of sophisticated communication and detection equipment to the Georgian Border Police for installation and use at the green border of Georgia. This equipment will greatly support the Border Police in controlling illicit movements of people, goods and livestock taking place across the border of Georgia with its neighbouring countries and take appropriate measures when such incidents take place.

On 30 July 2018, the EU handed over sophisticated detection equipment and body-worn cameras to the Revenue Service (RS) of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia worth up to 240,000 EUR.  The equipment comes as part of EU support to RS help ensure facilitated yet secure movement of people and goods across Georgia’s borders.

The EU has donated 540 tablets to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA) to strengthen its capacities in developing intelligence-led policing and crime prevention in the country.

This technical equipment will help the Georgian authorities in streamlining a uniform information management on current crime trends and will also facilitate a more enhanced risk analysis system. The tablets will be used by front-line police officers who are patrolling the streets of towns and villages in Georgia and enable them to report crimes and incidents in real-time. The technical equipment will also give police officers the opportunity to link up to various MIA databases and report without delay to the MIA’s Joint Operations Center in Tbilisi.
